Specific mediums:

Blogs:

Company’s share news on their blogs first.

BTW, other social media, like Linkedin and X, formerly known as Twitter and Instagram, have blogs.

X, formerly known as Twitter:

Since 2022, the number of journalists who say X is their top social medium has dropped from 36% to 25%. Many are not as active as they were. But it’s still a medium a majority of users say they get their news from.

Sharing your news release on X, formerly known as Twitter:

A good idea is to take 1 or 2 core ideas from the press release and condense each into a single tweet or post, leaving room for a link to the press release itself. Consider using interesting statistics or facts that will make your followers want to learn more.

Remember that social media are still COMPLEMENTARY platforms for news releases.

Be professional. The tweet/post should look as professional as the new release. No slang, confusing abbreviations.

This will allow publications to embed your tweet/post with the full release linked:

Good example of X, formerly known as Twitter, use for “news” on Southwest.

Facebook:

Facebook is good for promoting events and announcements and interactivity. Purdue’s Liberal Arts Facebook page and Southwest Airlines’ Facebook

Instagram: Life at Purdue on Instagram. Captions (so writing!!!) are becoming huge on these sites. You have a few words to explain/tell a story/inform or get people to want to make the effort to click that link in bio. Or a few words to add to images/captions in Reels and stories for creativity.

TikTok: Check out our local Almost Home Humane Society. They do a great job of entertaining with a message.
